We’ve been busy. I cut a bunch out, but this will still be a long post.
When my daughter was born, I promised myself I’d do what I could to get the guys out at least once a year on a bird hunt. The last couple years I had better success with bigger groups and/or multiple hunts, but this year I still could count on Colin and RP. A great time was had by all.

Pumpkin Pickin’ back in October
It starts out light and poppy with Paul McCartney, Wham, Colbert, and Albert King. Then we get into some classics. One must consider, who has the best southern xmas song of all time: Alan Jackson or Brooks & Dunn. A few more classics, some lesser known songs, and then all bets are off. For those wondering, our family traditonally listens to Boz Scaggs on xmas, which stems from an xmas celebrated at Davidson College with a turntable and some Boz Scaggs records but no xmas records. Enjoy and happy holidays.

by rsiv with no comments yetBack in October I got some timed passes to the National Museum of African American History. I had a two year old in tow, so I didn’t get to spend as much time as I’d like reading everything, but I liked the museum and thought everything was very well done. You start in the basement where it is dark and cramped, simulating the feel of a slave ship. Then you work your way through time. I’ve read a fair amount on slavery, but still learned plenty of new things. I thought the sports section in particular was incredible and a celebration of achievement. Some parts were tough, not unlike visiting the Holocaust museum. Others light; the music and culture section was similar to what you see at American history. The bottom line is that I’ll definitely go back, and recommend that everyone go. If you eat there, and you should, the BBQ chicken with Alabama white sauce was amazing. Smoky and delicious. The fried chicken was very good, but not spectacular. I also tried some stuffed rainbow trout and would recommend it. Every side I had was great, and the sweet tea was delicious.
To kick off the fall, we went to a family friend’s bonfire party.
EF was a little nervous around the horses and fire, but horses and fire are scary for good reason. #smartbebe

We went to the happiest place on earth (would that be the one with screaming kids, or the one with 2 for 1 drinks?) to visit my aunt and uncle. If you don’t believe either are the happiest place on earth, just look at FJ. Hes smiling in every photo. I’d been wanting to visit The Villages for some time. I read an article about it which peaked my interest, and having been, it really does feel like going to a big state party school. We saw lots of active people enjoying clubs, and living it up. EF had a blast, and it was great to see everyone. One day, I will own a lanai.
LeBeef won a week at the OBX, so we went back this summer for round 2… Lil girl had no fear and was running headlong into huge waves, rolling around, and loving it.
